Education and Employment Support

One in four (some say one in three) of us will struggle with mental health issues at some point in our life. Mental health issues can be misunderstood, debilitating and very isolating.

Good work and the right help make all the difference in getting back on track, and that’s what we’re all about.

Craig: “I really enjoy my job at Phoenix. I’m excited to come here. Everyone is so friendly. They are amazing really. I absolutely love it.”

We work with each person at Phoenix Enterprises, taking a personal, targeted and holistic approach to their support. Where appropriate, we help the people who we support source and retain paid work. Through their work experience with us, they gain employability skills, motivation and confidence. Our staff and incredible trustees and volunteers work with each person to help them develop their CV, identify suitable jobs, assist with job applications and carry out interview practice. We give the support required to help those people that can, move into sustainable paid employment and live as independently as possible.

Kerry: “I’m so excited to be starting my new job. I’ve been going from one thing to another, then I had Covid on my birthday and losing my last job over a year ago was hard. I start my new job on Thursday but I still want to come and see everyone at Phoenix sometimes. Phoenix has given me the boost I needed. I like seeing my friends here. It gives me something to fill my day.”

Louise: “We’re so incredibly proud of Kerry and are thrilled she’s secured paid employment. She’s worked really hard at Phoenix and brings so much joy and happiness each day she is here. She has had a tough year facing multiple barriers along the way but she hasn’t let them hold her back, and it’s so good to see her so excited for her next step. Well done Kerry!”

When the people we work with leave Phoenix Enterprises, they often move into roles such as retail, customer service and care. We have some fantastic local employers who we try and work with as it’s always reassuring to know that our people will be supported appropriately in their next steps.

In the near future we would like to see a greater variety in the opportunities for our people as they have various skill sets which could really contribute to multiple industries and work places. We would love to build more relationships with local employers who are open minded and understand the ways in which our people can benefit their workplace, as well as being open to offer supported work placements. Everybody should be able to participate in mainstream paid employment, no matter their story, background or disability.
